Standing stone

Adjacent to the 'Gallaun' marked on the OS maps is a prostrate slab which probably once stood upright. The 2 stones are situated in reclaimed pastureland at the base of the N slopes of Knockavrogeen, c. 400m W of the Milltown river. The standing stone measures 3m in height, 1.8m in width at base tapering to a point at top, and .56m in thickness across the middle tapering to only 1 to 2 cms at the edges; NNE-SSW. The prostrate slab lies 1.6m to N and is c. 2.48m long NW-SE, a maximum of 1.16m wide tapering almost to a point at the SE edge, and at least .39m thick.
