Standing stone in Tyredagh Lower stood two metres tall on a sunny Clare slope until cattle scratched its shallow roots and it fell. The irregular stone now lies prostrate in a slight depression, still wearing green moss at its base, while overlooking low-lying ground to the east. Its sudden descent suggests a familiar partnership between human neglect and animal patience, turning a ancient marker into a temporary bed of grass.

On a S-facing slope, in improved pasture, overlooking low-lying ground E-WNW, where there are moderate views. Not depicted on any OS historic mapping. A former standing stone which is now lying prostrate (L 2.3m) within a slight depression. Identified in 2004 when the stone is recorded as being upright (SMR file). When standing, it was recorded as 2.04m in height indicating that the depth of the subsurface base was 0.26m, which is relatively shallow for a stone of this height and thickness (T 0.12m at base; T 0.10m at top). It is a very irregular shaped stone in elevation (Max. Wth at base 0.9m; min. Wth at top 0.21m) and the surface has natural solution marks. Some green mosses are noted at the base suggesting it fell not long after it was recorded in 2004. According to local information it fell of its own accord a number of years ago. It would appear that it is likely to have become loose due to a combination of cattle poaching and scratching. The following images have been uploaded: CL027-049----_01 From E.
