What is recorded here
A rectangular standing stone, aligned northwest to southeast on a west-facing pasture slope in Carbery East, bore a depression that local people called a footprint. The stone stood 1.1 metres high and 1.2 metres long, large enough to mark a boundary, a meeting place or a warning, yet it has since been removed from the field. What remains is the shape of its absence: a flat patch of grass where a human shadow once fell at dusk, and a story passed between neighbours about the foot that pressed into stone.
In pasture on W-facing slope. Rectangular stone aligned NW-SE (H 1.1m; 1.2m x 0.35m). Depression on top of stone locally said to be footprint. According to local information (November 2001), this stone has been removed.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 1: West Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1992). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
