What is recorded here

Tooreennamult is a small place where two stones still stand, one eight feet tall and one four, recorded in the 1940s but never exactly found since. They may be the kind of markers people set for direction, memory or warning, visible from a distance and easy to forget once the road changed. If they are still there, they are probably standing in grass, rock chips or shadow, waiting for someone to walk past them twice and pay attention the second time.

In the 1940s two 'galláns about 8 and 4 feet [2.43m and 1.21m] high respectively' were recorded in this townland (Schools Manuscript, Co. Kerry). These stones have not been precisely located and it is possible that they are in that part of Tooreennamult that is on OS 6-inch map 60.
