What is recorded here
Standing stone in Murrahin North is a rough rectangular block in gorse pasture, facing west toward Mount Gabriel. A quartz vein cuts its southeast face like a frozen river, catching light while the rest of the stone stays dark. Whoever set it there may have chosen that exact line of sight, marking a boundary, a memory or a warning across the open countryside.
In rough pasture, on a mainly gorse-covered W-facing slope overlooking undulating countryside as far as Mount Gabriel to the W. This standing stone (1.2m x 0.4m; H 0.95m) is roughly rectangular in plan and is orientated NE-SW. A quartz vein runs through the SE face of the stone.
The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 5' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2009).
