Standing stone in Moneymohill

Standing stone

What is recorded here

Denis Power recorded the Moneymohill standing stone in 2011, exposing a blunt stone marker hidden inside ordinary pasture. The fact that cattle rubbed its edges smooth turns a possible ancient boundary into a living farm tool. Human memory may have faded, but animal bodies kept the shape present.
Atop hillock, in undulating pasture. Upright stone (H 1.1m; Wth 0.3m; D 0.2m) with long axis NNE-SSW. Edges of stone worn smooth by cattle rubbing against it. Compiled by: Denis Power Date of upload: 26 August 2011
Likely dating to the Late Neolithic or Bronze Age, this standing stone may have had ritual or territorial significance. The wear on its edges suggests long-term use as a cattle rub, blending practical function with possible symbolic importance in prehistoric pastoral society.
