Standing stone in Monbay Lower

Marked as a standing stone only on 1940 ed. of the OS 6-inch map, and situated on a W-facing slope at the head of a small E-W valley and on the W side of a N-S road bank. It was described in 1940 as a subrectangular stone (dims c. 1-1.15m x 0.2-0.6m; H c. 0.7-0.9m) (OSFM). It was described locally in 1987 as being c. 1.2m high, and it was removed c. 1970 when it was buried in under a farmyard (WX006-088----) c. 60m to the NE. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Wexford' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1996).
