Standing stone in Leitrim More

Standing stone

What is recorded here

No visible stone remains in the hilly pastureland, yet the landowner remembered a large stone standing before the house until removal in the early 1930s. That recollection points away from the exact spot marked on the 1838 map, while another possible stone lay nearly ninety metres to the southeast. The true stone may have been the one forgotten, moved or misremembered.
In hilly pastureland. Indicated and named 'Stone' in Roman script on the 1838 edition of the OS 6-inch map. No visible surface trace survives. The landowner remembered a ‘large stone’ standing in front of the house, it was removed in the early 1930s. However, this was not exactly at the spot marked on the map. Another possible standing stone (GA116-088----) lay c. 90m to the SE. Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 18 December 2019

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
