What is recorded here

Knockoura holds a small rectangular stone on a south-facing slope above the Gour River and Pulleen Harbour. It stands eighty-five centimetres tall in rough pasture, aligned northeast to southwest as if marking a line across the valley rather than merely rising from the ground. People may have set it there to judge distance, remember an event or guide others along the coast, but the valley has kept that purpose hidden beneath grass and rain.

In rough uneven pasture with occasional outcropping rocks, on a S-facing slope overlooking the valley of the Gour River and Pulleen Harbour. This standing stone (0.4m x 0.28m; H 0.85m), which stands on a prominent rise, is rectangular in plan and section and is orientated NE-SW. Probably dates to the Late Neolithic or Bronze Age, given its form and context. Its alignment or view over the Gour River valley may have had ritual or territorial significance.
