What is recorded here
Knockardbane holds a leaning stone, tall enough to touch but narrow enough to grasp, watching the Awbeg River from a grassy slope. A second stone waits forty metres away, suggesting the field once contained a conversation rather than a lonely marker. People may have tied horses, dropped coins or simply pointed at the horizon before leaving. The stones remain steady while memory wavers around them.
In pasture, on N-facing slope overlooking Awbeg River. Stone (H 1.32m; 0.34m x 0.2m), narrowing towards top, is rectangular in plan and leaning to W, long axis NE-SW. Second stone (10055) 40.6m to SW.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 4: North Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2000). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
