Standing stone in Killowen

In level pasture, to the N of Kenmare Bay. This standing stone (0.9m x 0.2m; H 0.7m) has a sloping top, is roughly rectangular in plan and is orientated E-W. Parts of it seem to have been broken off. A rath (KE093-017----) lies c. 20m to the E. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Kerry. Probably dating to the Bronze Age, this standing stone may have had a ritual or territorial function, possibly associated with the nearby rath. Its orientation and broken condition suggest it could have been part of a wider ceremonial landscape, though specific folklore or use is not recorded.
