Standing stone in Killesk

Standing stone

What is recorded here

Marked only on the 1940 ed. of the OS 6-inch map and situated on a slight prominence. What is probably a granite stone is oriented E-W with a rectangular cross section (dims. 0.73m x 0.35m; H 1m) and a bluntly pointed top. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Wexford' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1996). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload/revision: 28 January, 2013
Likely dating to the Neolithic or Bronze Age, this standing stone may have had ceremonial or territorial significance. Its orientation and placement on a slight prominence suggest a possible alignment with solar or ritual practices, though specific folklore or use remains unrecorded.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
