Standing stone in Killeens (cork By.)

Standing stone

What is recorded here

Killeens in County Cork once held a standing stone on a sun-warmed slope, but local information says people moved it against a field boundary. Later searches failed to find it, suggesting the stone vanished or hid in plain sight. That disappearance transforms a ordinary pasture into a place where human hands changed the landscape and then erased the evidence.
In pasture, on a SW-facing slope. According to local information, a standing stone was situated at this location but was removed in the recent past and placed against a field boundary. A subsequent inspection of the area failed to locate this possible standing stone. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 5' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2009). Date of upload: 22 December 2009
