Standing stone in Glencullen

Standing stone

What is recorded here

No visible remains, but a quartz standing stone is still named on the hill above the old chapel at Glencullen. That much is in the local tradition, not in a photograph. The hill keeps its shape, the chapel has lost much of its clarity, and the stone may have been broken, buried or never truly separate from the rock at all. Whatever happened, the place still points upward.
The OS Letters (Herity 2001, 3) record the tradition of a quartz standing stone on the hill above the old chapel at Glencullen. No visible remains. Compiled by: Geraldine Stout and Padraig Clancy Revised upload on: 28 July 2019
