Standing stone in Garryduff (newcastle Par.)

On a N-facing slope, just off the flat crest of a ridge, at the foot of Knockperry South hill. There are extensive views to the N and W, good to the E and impeded to the S. Large red sandstone standing stone (L 2.37m; 1.1m x 0.5m) rectangular in plan. It is known locally as 'the Bishop' because it narrows towards the top (0.7m x 0.44m) giving the appearance of a head on a larger body. This narrowing appears to be due to weathering, where the stone has cracked and broken off. The stone had fallen over, with the base facing S, and was subsequently re-erected (H 2.12m above ground), giving an orientation NW-SE. There are packing stones at the base on the SE side.
