What is recorded here

Coolanarney lost its tall stone in 1895 when men broke and removed it, yet the field still carries the name Pairc an Ghalláin. The stone measured ten feet long and six by two in girth, large enough to mark the land and occupy memory. It is gone now, but the name keeps its shape alive in the mouth and mind.

Standing stone recorded by Broker (1937, 30) in Mrs Ring's land in this townland. 'Gallán, 10 feet long and 6 feet by 2 in girth; broken and removed in 1895. Field still called Pairc an Ghalláin'. Likely dating to the Bronze Age, the stone's name *Gallán* may derive from the Irish *gall* (foreign) or *gallán* (a stone), suggesting possible cultural or ritual significance. Its removal in 1895 and the continued use of the field name *Pairc an Ghalláin* indicate local awareness and memory of the site.
