Clifden Demesne still holds a squat granite boulder on a natural mound, aligned north to south like a marker for carts or ghosts. The four stones beside the mansion road are probably 19th-century decoration, but this one may be genuine antiquity. That difference matters because a garden toy forgets people while a true standing stone keeps them company across centuries.

On a prominent, but natural, mound in the former demesne of Clifden Castle. Squat granite boulder (H 0.9m), oblong in plan and aligned N-S. Possibly a genuine antiquity but the four other 'standing stones' (see GA035-028-----GA035-031----), ranged along both sides of the venue leading to the mansion, are probably 19th-C ornamental features.
