Standing stone

What is recorded here

Standing stone in Ceathrú An Fheirtéaraigh is a 1.3m high stone on rough Kerry pastureland where outcropping rocks make human placement uncertain. It lies east to west, 1.4m long and at most .73m thick, large enough to mark a boundary, a memory or a passing route if people ever chose it. More likely it is a native stone the land kept visible, waiting for imagination to give it a job.
This stone, located on rough, scrubby pastureland with frequent outcropping rocks, may be naturally positioned. It stands 1.3m high and is 1.4m long x a maximum of .73m thick; E-W. The above description is derived from J. Cuppage, ‘Corca Dhuibhne. Dingle Peninsula archaeological survey. Ballyferriter. Oidhreacht Chorca Dhuibhne’ (1986), no. 104. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 4 August 2013
