Standing stone in Banagher

In average coastal pasture, located on a low ridge, just to SE of the summit, overlooking Lackan Bay. Nephin Mountain is prominent on the horizon to SSW, Knocknarae in Sligo is visible to ENE, and the mountains of Donegal define the far horizon to NE. Indicated as ‘Standing Stone’ on the 1838 and 1922 OS 6-inch maps, it consists of an upright, narrow, pillar-like stone (H 1.75m; Wth 0.23m; T 0.1m), with a flat top. The long axis is aligned roughly N-S. It stands at the E end of a low, grass-covered, stony rise (3.4m E-W; 1.6m N-S; H 0.5m). Compiled by: Jane O’Shaughnessy Date of upload: 13 November 2018
