What is recorded here

Ballyoughtragh South holds a standing stone in County Kerry, but human memory has not yet recorded why it rises from the earth. The stone may have marked a boundary, honoured a dead person or watched a road before roads had names. It still stands while human evidence has gone missing, which is the true strangeness of the place: not that the stone is unknown, but that it has outlived the people who knew it.
