Standing stone

What is recorded here

An Bhinn Bhán is a standing stone on a low rise above Dingle Bay, 1.4m high and flat-topped. It leans slightly northward, watching the entrances to Dingle Harbour and Trabeg. Perhaps it marked a boundary, a meeting place, or a warning to sailors. The stone remains patient while the sea and sky argue around it.

It inclines slightly to NNW. The above description is derived from J. Cuppage, ‘Corca Dhuibhne. Dingle Peninsula archaeological survey. Ballyferriter. Oidhreacht Chorca Dhuibhne’ (1986), no. 85. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 3 August 2013
