What is recorded here

That underground chamber and narrow creepway disappeared beneath a small subrectangular field in An Bhinn Bhán, leaving only a grass-grown stone cairn to mark the place where human hands cut through solid earth. It may have served as a hiding hole, a seasonal store, or a chamber for rituals when storms closed the sky. The absence of a grand entrance makes the passage more intriguing, since whoever built it wanted to keep the interior hidden from casual sight.
Univallate rath KE053-073---- with Man-made underground passage KE053-073001- was shown on the OS maps only as a small subrectangular field. There is no visible trace of the Man-made underground passage KE053-073001- which lay near the S edge of the enclosure. It consisted of at least 1 chamber or passage and a creepway (local information). The only feature now visible in the interior is a grass-grown cairn of stones with a slight central depression. This measures 3.5m x 2.5m x a maximum of .6m in height. The above description is derived from J. Cuppage, ‘Corca Dhuibhne. Dingle Peninsula archaeological survey. Ballyferriter. Oidhreacht Chorca Dhuibhne’ (1986), no. 349. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 6 August 2013

This remains an important historical record, but the official description says the monument is no longer visible or has been destroyed. The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
