Freestanding gable-fronted single-cell Roman Catholic church, built c.1820. Comprising three-bay double-height nave with sacristy to rear (south-west). Pitched slate roof with rendered bellcote and cross finial to front (north-east) elevation and wrought-iron cross finial to rear elevation. Wrought-iron trefoil ridge cresting to nave and cast-iron rainwater goods throughout. Lined-and-ruled rendered walls, having pointed arch recesses to front elevation contained tooled limestone fonts. Pointed arch window openings with render sills to nave, having uPVC windows. Pointed arch uPVC framed lead-lined stained glass window to front elevation. Pointed arch door opening to front elevation having double-leaf timber battened door, stained glass overlight and sidelights. Blocked pointed arch door to southern end of front elevation, now rendered. Ornate carved timber reredos to south-west interior, set in pointed arch rendered alcove. Engaged carved timber columns flanking chancel area, carrying carved timber arch with drop ball finial. Timber panelled ceiling with carved timber gallery to rear (north-east). Set within own grounds having square-profile lined-and-ruled piers with roughcast rendered boundary walls having steel railings and gates to front of site.
This fine early nineteenth-century church forms the focal point within the small village of Toom. The exterior presents an understated, modest decorative scheme, which contrasts with the late nineteenth century interior, with its finely carved columns, ornate reredos and timber panelled ceiling
