St. Davids Church

Situated on a level landscape. This is the site of the parish church of Mulrankin within a rectangular graveyard (dims 57m E-W; 30m N-S) defined by masonry walls at E and around an entrance from a public road at S, and by earthen banks with trees elsewhere. According to a Visitation by Thomas Ram, the Protestant bishop of Ferns, in 1615 Nicholas Rochford was the rector and Jacob Synnott the vicar, and the church and chancel were in repair (Hore 1900-11, vol. 6, 268). The old church is described by Lewis (1837, vol. 2, 413) as a small plain building beyond repair, on whose site the Ecclesiastic Commissioners were to build a new church. The Church of Ireland church of St. David is on the site but there are no visible remains of an older structure.
