The site of this holy well has been forested. It was dedicated to St. Colmcille. The above description was derived from the 'Archaeological Survey of County Donegal. A description of the field antiquities of the County from the Mesolithic Period to the 17th century.' St. Columbkilles Well is associated with St. Colmcille (Columba), a 6th-century Irish monk and missionary credited with founding numerous monasteries and spreading Christianity in Ireland and Scotland. Holy wells dedicated to him often feature traditions of healing and pilgrimage, with devotees seeking cures for ailments by drinking or bathing in the water.
