What is recorded here

Castle Street in St Andrews, Fife holds a buried coin hoard. The exact period remains unknown, but the jars and vessels beneath the street suggest a moment when someone stopped trusting the open market. Maybe a merchant feared raiding, maybe a family preserved wedding gifts, or maybe a stranger fled suddenly and buried what could not be carried. The coins waited under foottraffic, patient as stone, until human hands opened that hidden chamber again.
