Snowdonia from Caernarfon Castle is a castle, fort or tower in Gwynedd, Wales. Perhaps the mountains appeared as a white ridge above the castle walls, making the fort look like a small stone guard posted at the edge of a giant landscape. Maybe people climbed the castle steps only to discover that the real challenge was waiting outside, broad and uncontrollable. Imagine standing at that height with snow on the ridges and castles below, as if human walls had been built merely to mark the size of the world.

Caernarfon Castle was built by King Edward I of England between 1283 and 1330 as part of his campaign to subdue Wales. It is important as a symbol of English medieval military architecture and as a key site in the history of Welsh resistance and eventual incorporation into the English crown.
