Skibo Castle, Walled Flower Garden and Greenhouses stands in Highland, Scotland, where twentieth-century glasshouses and a walled garden still hold the shape of deliberate cultivation. The castle overlookes the garden, the garden overlookes the land, and the land gives back a little of its own life in return. To walk past is to see a house that stopped pretending to be small.

Skibo Castle was built in the late 19th century by Sir James Matheson, a Scottish merchant and member of the wealthy Matheson family, and was later expanded in the early 20th century. It is remembered for its striking Gothic Revival architecture and as part of the estate that was gifted to the 30th U.S. President, Calvin Coolidge, in 1926.
