Skibo Castle, near Loch Ospisdale East, was built in the late 19th century for Sir William Burrell, a Glasgow shipping magnate and art collector. It is remembered for its distinctive Scottish Baronial architecture and as part of Burrell's extensive estate, later associated with his renowned art collection now housed in the Burrell Collection museum.
