Site of CHURCH; GRAVEYARD; H0LYWELL & CROSS-CARVED STONE: CHAPLEFIELD in Crevilly Valley

Site of CHURCH; GRAVEYARD; H0LYWELL & CROSS-CARVED STONE: CHAPLEFIELD

What is recorded here

Chaplefield in Crevilly Valley held a church, graveyard, holy well and cross-carved stone before human memory faded. People likely drew water from the well, buried their dead beside the church and read the cross as a marker of faith. The valley may have treated the site as a threshold between everyday life and the sacred. What is certain is that Chaplefield still carries the shape of that older relationship.
The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as Site of CHURCH; GRAVEYARD; H0LYWELL & CROSS-CARVED STONE: CHAPLEFIELD. Recorded period: UNCERTAIN. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
