Bawn Castle stands inside Westport Demesne, County Mayo, a castle so unclassified it resists easy description. The land holds the shape of a residence rather than a vague ruin, waiting for someone to identify its rooms, purpose and age. That absence of description does not diminish the place; it invites closer observation.
