Síle de Valera was born in Clonskeagh, Dublin in 1954, the youngest child of Terence de Valera and Phyllis Blake. She later became the youngest Teachta Dála elected in the 1977 general election for Dublin County Mid. Her family name carried heavy weight because her grandfather, Éamon de Valera, founded Fianna Fáil and served as both Taoiseach and President of Ireland.
