Siege of Galway

Galway stood as the last Irish Catholic city in 1651, its walls protected by water on three sides and stubborn men inside. Charles Coote chose starvation over bloodshed, sealing the narrow land approach while Thomas Preston waited for relief that never came. The siege dragged through winter until hunger broke the spirit of the final defenders, ending organised resistance across Ireland.
