Shrine in Cool East

Located near the centre of the site, this poorly preserved shrine survives as a low, rectangular stony area which is partially defined by upright slabs. The mound averages .4m high and includes some quartz pebbles. The Delaps noted four slotted stones in situ at its corners, and a fifth example just N of the ogham stone (1910, 191). Only the latter stone is now visible. It is a sandstone conglomerate with an off-centre broad notch, .18m long x .1m wide. The shrine appears, from the Delaps illustration of it, to have been of the corner-post variety. The above description is derived from O'Sullivan, A. and Sheehan, J.
