Shillinglaw Walls stands in the Scottish Borders as a medieval tower house, its stone frame still marking the land despite age and neglect. The exact position is known to within ten metres, yet the walls themselves may have lost rooms, roofs and much of their shape. Whatever remains belongs to everyone's memory but not everyone's feet, because record and entry are different things.

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Shillinglaw Walls as Tower House (medieval). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 10m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
