Joseph Thomas Sheridan Le Fanu was born on Dominick Street Lower in Dublin in 1814, the same city where he would die in 1873. He turned personal hardship into Gothic fiction, writing Carmilla and Uncle Silas before fading from public memory. Later writers pulled his stories back into light, proving that darkness written honestly does not disappear, it waits for readers ready to see it.
