Sheepfolds

Hut site

What is recorded here

In rough hill pasture, on the lower N-facing slopes of The Paps of Dana and c. 40m WSW of a hut site (KE068-043----). There are no visible remains of the small oval structure (diam. c. 4m) named 'sheepfold' on the 1894 OS 6-inch map and the possibility remains that it, like its neighbour (KE068-043----), may have been a hut site which was modified as a sheepfold. Compiled by: Elizabeth Byrne, Ursula Egan and Sheila Ronan, Archaeological Survey Unit, University College, Cork. Date of upload: 31 January 2011

This remains an important historical record, but the official description says the monument is no longer visible or has been destroyed. The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
