What is recorded here
Rain and memory have worn the chisel marks smooth, yet the small female figure still faces outward from the west gable. Her hands remain under her breasts, genitalia exposed on the north jamb of a first-floor window. She is not hiding behind doctrine or distance. She is set into the building like a warning, a joke, or a promise. The church was made for prayer, but this carving insists the body belongs in the story. That is the edge of Glebe: the sacred and the shameful share one wall.
On the external face of the N jamb of a window, at first-floor level, in the W gable of the late-medieval church (LF017-003001-). Carved in relief is a sheela-na-gig comprising a small, female figure with her hands positioned under the breasts and the genitalia exposed. (Moore 2007, No. 15)
