What is recorded here
Coole may have been a city, but no wall, road or door remains visible to argue the claim. It hides somewhere in County Antrim, recorded only as an unlocated settlement and denied the certainty given to ordinary villages. Perhaps it was a trading port, a fortress or a seasonal camp misheard into grandeur. The absence does not diminish Coole; it refuses to be completed.
The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as SETTLEMENT SITE: CITY OF COOLE (unlocated). Recorded period: UNCERTAIN. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.
The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
