Settlement deserted

Settlement deserted, medieval

What is recorded here

Medieval Lea rose as a military staging post and fell back into the low Barrow fields, leaving only ambiguous ditches and a vanished ash tree that once anchored Whit-Monday dancing. Its fate was never smooth: rebellion, siege, decay and forgetting all had a share. What remains is a place where human pride kept returning to ground that would not hold it steady.
Unlocated settlement possibly located somewhere between Castletown castle and Castletown Church (Feehan 1983, 370). Compiled by: Caimin O'Brien Date of upload: 17 December 2007
