Phisizianeston, otherwise Ballynesigy, vanished before the Ormond Deeds recorded its grant in 1572. The Earl gave William Croke lands, tenements and court profits, but the settlement itself had already emptied. What remains is a name preserved in a transaction, not a village preserved in stone.

In the Ormond Deeds, an ‘Indenture dated May 1, 1572, between Sir Thomas Butler, Earl of Ormond, and William Croke of Keaphedien, clerk, witnesses that said Earl grants the town or village of Phisizianeston, otherwise called Ballynesigy, Co. Kilkenny, with all the meases, lands, tenements, etc., belonging to the same, reserving to himself all game, to have and to hold to said William, his executors and assigns, for a term of 21 years at annual rent of 4l. 13s. 4d., a poundage hog, a summer sheep and 6 watch hens, with the moiety of all heriots, strays and profits of courts’ (Curtis 1941, 225, deed no. 208). The area of this settlement was identified as roughly including a portion of the modern townlands of Bigmeadow, Kyleadohir and Physicianstown (pers. comm. J. Kennedy, 1986). There is no visible trace of the settlement at ground level or on satellite imagery (Google Earth 2008-2021; OSI Aerials 1995-2018; Digitalglobe 2011-13).
