Settlement cluster in Loughteeog

Settlement cluster

What is recorded here

Loughteeog held a whole town in the seventeenth century, yet no wall, road or door remains marked for it today. The name changed from Loughticogue to Loughteeog while the people and streets vanished into County Laois soil. Forgetting is not the same as losing; the town still lives inside the name, waiting for someone to stop treating it as a mistake.
Unlocated settlement within townland mentioned in seventeenth century document as the town of Loughticogue (Feehan 1983, 370, O'Flanagan 1933, p. 97-8) Compiled by: Caimin O'Brien Date of upload: 17 December 2007

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
