Seóirse Bodley was born George Pascal Bodley in Dublin on 4 April 1933, the son of a railway clerk and a Guinness brewery worker. His parents gave him early lessons on mandolin and piano, planting the music that would later reshape Irish composition. He grew up in Phibsboro and Glasnevin before moving to Parnell Square at nine, carrying that household sound into every chamber he later entered.
