What is recorded here

Castle Street in Selkirk still drops past the east lodge, a stone throat between the town and the old castle lands. The lodge may have guarded entry, marked boundary or simply framed the view, yet its exact purpose has faded. Whatever it controlled, the street remembers the act of passing through, a small gate in the life of a border town.
