Seán Potts

Seán Potts was born in The Liberties, Dublin, on 5 October 1930, the nephew of fiddle player Tommie Potts and a man who would shape Irish music through the tin whistle. He helped found The Chieftains in November 1962, played with them until 1979, and before that joined Seán Ó Riada's group Ceoltoirí Chualann. After leaving the band for an easier life, he did radio work for RTÉ, founded Bakerswell, and toured the United States for NPU. He died at 83 on 11 February 2014, leaving four children and a sound still heard in sessions across Ireland.
