Seán Heuston

Seán Heuston joined the Irish Volunteers in Dublin after working as a railway clerk in Limerick, where he helped poorer Fianna Éireann members buy uniforms through small weekly payments. During the Easter Rising of 1916, he commanded about twenty men at the Mendicity Institution on the River Liffey, holding the place for over two days instead of the expected few hours. He was executed by firing squad in Kilmainham Gaol on 8 May 1916, and his name now appears on Heuston railway station and Seán Heuston Bridge.
