Sean Dunphy

Sean Dunphy, born in Whitehall, Dublin, sang his way to second place at Eurovision 1967 and became the first Irish singer to record in Nashville. He led The Hoedowners through number-one hits like "Lonely Woods of Upton" before continuing as a solo voice. Even after a quadruple heart bypass in 2007, he kept performing, and twenty-four hours before his death in May 2011 he still stood at a charity event, giving song instead of surrender.
