Rectangular 2-storey school at N end of Charleville. Coursed random-rubble limestone construction with ashlar quoins. Gable-ended with coursed ashlar chimney stacks atop gables; ornate quatrefoil niche with central ventilation slit in gable ends. Front (NE) of 5 bays, stone flat-arched window opes with sash windows; central limestone plaque reads 'The Charleville National School AD 1833'. Stone staircase over archway on NW gable end gives access to 1st floor round-headed door ope. Blocked 1st-floor window in SE gable end; late 19th-century single-storey porch on ground floor with hipped roof and brick detail. Yard to rear divided into two. Used as furniture store, converted to theatre subsequent to inspection. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
