Cathedral School mentioned in 1233 that was located to the S of St Patrick's Cathedral (DU018-020269- ) within the grounds of the present Cathedral (Clarke 2002, 28). In 1364 Archbishop Allen’s Register (McNeill 1950, 216) recorded that Lionel, Duke of Clarence, son of the King of England and lieutenant in Ireland requested that the Dean and Chapter of St Patrick’s ‘find a fit friar of the order of Augustinian Hermits to read theology in the school-house of the said dean and chapter at Dublin for ever, and to pay 10 marks a year at agreed terms to the prior and convent of the said order at Dublin’.
