What is recorded here
Nine years old, I was a small boy in a red coat when the blue plaque first appeared at 94 Malone Road. I remembered the ceremony because a woman in a grey coat stood beside me and pointed at the name of Samuel Dill. She said he had taught children to think with clarity, and that clarity was a gift rare in Belfast. I believed her, not because I understood teaching, but because her voice became sharp and proud. Years later I still hear that boy’s certainty: a blue plaque is not decoration, but a promise that excellence must be remembered.
